"In 1996 Hurricane Fran crashed into the central North Carolina coast. My family lived in piedmont North Carolina. My late wife’s Mom lived in the Surf City / Holly Ridge area. Donna’s mom was worried about the intensity of Hurricane Fran and ask us to retrieve her from the coast until the storm passed. The path of the storm changed and the storm intensified and passed through central North Carolina. It was apparabt the storm would pass very close to our home in Alamance County NC. The storm spawned a small funnel cloud and hit our home, ripping the roof from the house and placed is in our front yard. The storm dumped many inches of rain into our roof-less home ruining everything. We escaped the home after having to cut multiple downed trees blocking our path of escape. The home was s total loss. We only had the clothes we were wearing and a suitcase filled with valuables from our home that Donna had packed despite my instructions to pack clothes. Cooler heads prevailed. The next morning i was at our State Farm office in Graham NC at opening time and told my story to our agent. Despite my complete lack of pictures or any other proof of our loss, i left the office with s check for $7,000 dollars for “living essentials such as medicine and clothing and housing. The home was declared a total loss and was replaced by State Farm. I have never since even considered changing my insurance needs from State Farm. Thanks for reading my testimony.
